Sweatfree Campus Worker Tour

February 5, 2009

Learn about the conditions of Bucky Badger apparel factories from Honduran workers on tour

WHAT:  Sweatfree Campus Worker Tour: Honduran UW Garment Workers Speak Out
WHEN:  Tuesday, February 10, 7 pm
WHERE:  Room B130, Van Vleck Hall, UW-Madison campus
Russell Athletic, a producer of UW logo apparel, recently shuttered its Jerzees de Honduras factory in response to efforts by workers to negotiate better wages and improved working conditions, leaving 1,800 workers jobless — a violation of UW-Madison’s code of conduct for apparel producers.
Now, two workers from this factory, Norma Estela Mejia Castellano and Moises Elisias a Bovado, are coming to Madison to share their story. Join us in showing our solidarity with workers who sew our Bucky Badger clothing, and learn what you can do to support their organizing!
In the words of Norma, “people need to understand that this plan to close the factory, it is an act of vengeance. It is vengeance against us for what we have done by trying to organize a union.”
