Volunteer at the
Tour de CSA!
One very big event looms ahead for us is Bike the Barns, a fundraiser for MACSAC’s partner shares program, which helps low income families get local, healthy food. The event is a bike tour of local CSA farms – either 62 or 75 miles – with 3 food stops along the way. It begins at Drumlin Community Farm where Tory Miller and the people from Cafe Soleil are making breakfast, then winds down through Blue Skies Berry Farm (with an additional optional stop at Scotch Hill Farm) to Tipi Produce, where the Underground Catering folks are serving lunch, and then ends up at Blue Moon Community Farm, where Slow Food UW will serve the afternoon snack.
It’s an honor to be asked to join these other great chefs in the event, and I want to make it a terrific success. The FH King students for sustainable agriculture are going to help us and donate some veggies, and guest chefs Melissa Kawaguchi and Carla McGarrah from Kendall Culinary School in Chicago will be here to lead the cooking.
These are wonderful partners, but we are still going to need MANY MANY more volunteers. We are expecting up to 700 people and we have to serve everything outdoors, so the event will offer a unique set of challenges. It’s also going to be a lot of fun!
Cooking will take place over the course of several days. If you can help at any of these times, please let me know. I’ll be looking for volunteers Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, and Saturday all day, (September 24th through the 27th).
Also, if you are interested in getting more involved in this project, or taking on a leadership role in the event, please let me know!
